Yet, wetlands are critically important ecosystems that contribute to biodiversity, climate mitigation and adaptation, freshwater availability, world economies and more.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-center wp-block-paragraph\">It is urgent that we raise national and global awareness about wetlands in order to reverse their rapid loss and encourage actions to conserve and restore them.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-center wp-block-paragraph\">World Wetlands Day is the ideal time to increase people\u2019s understanding of these critically important ecosystems.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading has-text-align-center\">World Wetlands Day 2026<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-center wp-block-paragraph\">World Wetlands Day 2026 explores the deep-rooted connections between wetlands and cultural practices, traditions and knowledge systems of communities across the world.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-center wp-block-paragraph\">This year\u2019s theme is \u201cWetlands and traditional knowledge: Celebrating cultural heritage.\u201d The global campaign spotlights the timeless role of traditional knowledge in sustaining wetland ecosystems and preserving cultural identity.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading has-text-align-center\">Who is behind World Wetlands Day?<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-center wp-block-paragraph\">The World Wetlands Day awareness campaign is organized by the Secretariat of the Convention on Wetlands.
